This sets out 10 actions to achieve our statutory target to reduce water demand by 20% by 2038. Within this we committed to implementing a Mandatory Water Efficiency label by 2025, to enable consumers to identify water efficient products. We wrote, this year, to all water companies encouraging a rapid increase of smart meter installations for household and non-household customers. The 2023 Plan for Water details our roadmap for water efficiency in new development and retrofits, including our commitment to develop guidance for development design to minimise the pressure they place on the water system, especially in water stressed areas. We are looking at a number of ways to improve water efficiency in homes, including reviewing standards in the building regulations for showers, taps, and toilets. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/07/2023 answer text <p>The Greening Government Commitments set out water efficiency measures that UK Government departments and their agencies will take to reduce impacts on the environment in the period 2021-25.</p><p> </p><p>The current commitment is to reduce water consumption by at least 8% by 2025 from the 2017 to 2018 baseline. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/05/2023 answer text <p>Water neutrality is about enabling development which does not increase the amount of water taken/ abstracted from the environment. Water companies account for the effects of growth, drought and climate change uncertainty on future demand within a Water Resources Management Plan and update this every five years.</p><p> </p><p>The investment through the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) is substantial; between 2020 and 2025 it will account for over £5 billion of asset improvements, investigation, monitoring and catchment interventions. Defra, the Environment Agency and Ofwat work with water companies to identify solutions that will improve water courses and prevent further deterioration. Water companies need to meet environmental legislative requirements set out in the Environment Act 2021.</p><p> </p><p>Furthermore, in our Plan for Water we set out how we are working with the Future Homes Hub and Cranfield University to “develop clear guidance on ‘water positive’ or ‘net zero water’ developments and roles for developers and water companies, including water company incentives”. This guidance could be used by Local Authorities and any other organisation that aspires to become water positive.</p><p> </p><p>In our Plan for Water we also set out that we will “support development of Agricultural Water Resources Management Plans through the Water for Food Group initiated by the National Farmers’ Union”.
