answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 21/02/2019 answer text <p>New apprenticeship standards across all levels are being designed by employers, creating higher quality training that will lead to a more skilled and productive economy. The move away from apprenticeship frameworks’ on-programme assessment via qualifications to the standards’ rigorous end-point assessment gives employers much greater assurance that, at the end of the apprenticeship, the apprentice is fully occupationally competent.</p><p>There were 163,700 starts on apprenticeship standards in 2017/18, which is more than 6 times higher than in 2016/17. This shows that employers are moving quickly to this new higher quality offer. The 20% minimum off-the-job training rule and this shift to standards with a longer average duration has already contributed to a 25% rise in expected apprenticeship training hours over the past year.</p><p>We will continue to assess the value for money of apprenticeship standards over the longer term as we see more apprentices complete the standards and progress in their careers.</p> answering member constituency Guildford answering member printed Anne Milton question first answered 21/02/2019 15:50:33 answering member 1523 label Biography information for Anne Milton

There are several reasons that an apprentice may have been recorded as completed without being recorded as achieved, including that they are waiting for their end-point assessment to be completed or awaiting a re-sit for their end-point assessment. Breakdowns of completions and achievements on individual standards in 2017/18 and Q1 2018/19 reported to date are available in the attached file. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/01/2019 answer text <p>We want to make the system easier to navigate for young people considering technical and vocational routes, as we committed to in the government's manifesto. We are still considering the feasibility of a centralised portal for further education. We have conducted extensive research with over 2,000 young people, colleges and career advisers. We will make final decisions on this in the context of our reforms to apprenticeships and the introduction of T levels.</p><p>We have already introduced functionality that allows levy-paying employers to advertise their own vacancies on the apprenticeship service. The Find an Apprenticeship website is accessed by thousands of would-be apprentices, their teachers and parents. Employers that do not pay the levy can continue to advertise their vacancies by contacting the national contact centre or working with their training provider. We will continue to develop this in future, informed by our engagement with employers and their feedback on the service.</p><p>​The National Apprenticeship Service and UCAS have developed a higher and degree apprenticeships ‘vacancy finder’ to consolidate many of these opportunities into one place. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/01/2019 answer text <p>In total, the closure of Aspire Achieve Advance has affected 4,216 apprentices. The apprentices were split between apprenticeships supported via levy funding and those supported via non-levy funding, based on the size of the employer involved. There were 2,384 apprentices with large levy paying employers and 1,832 apprentices with smaller non-levy paying employers.</p><p>It is the responsibility of the Education and Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) to source alternative high quality provision for the non-levy apprentices while employers retain the lead for sourcing alternative provision funded by the levy. They do this with the full support of the National Apprenticeship Service. So far, for the non-levy funded apprentices, the ESFA has approved 1,358 apprentice transfers to 125 high quality alternative providers.</p><p>Officials have also identified alternative, high quality provision for each of the remaining 410 apprentices and are contacting the providers involved to facilitate the transfers. 64 apprentices have notified us that they have successfully completed or withdrawn from their apprenticeship. Of the 2,384 apprentices funded by the levy, National Apprenticeship Service account managers are supporting those employers to identify new providers. As my right hon. Friend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced in his budget speech in October, we are seeking views from a range of employers on the operation of the levy after 2020. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/01/2019 answer text <p>Employers choose the type, level and quantity of apprenticeships that they offer, as well as when they offer the apprenticeships, to meet their current and future skills needs.</p><p>The Institute for Apprenticeships is supporting employers to design and take charge of high quality apprenticeship standards that give them the skills that they need. There are currently 390 standards available at all levels and in a range of occupations.</p><p>Apprenticeship starts at levels 2 and 3 make up the vast majority of the programme. There were 327,600 starts at these levels in 2017/18, which represents over 87% of starts. Apprenticeships at higher levels (from level 4 onwards) are continuing to grow, with an increase of 31.7% in 2017/18 compared to 2016/17. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/01/2019 answer text <p>The government want to see high-quality apprenticeship opportunities at all levels, right across the economy, and we are working with employer groups in a wide range of sectors to develop the standards their industries need. A total of 390 apprenticeship standards are now approved for delivery.<sup><sup>[1]</sup></sup></p><p>Apprenticeships benefit people of all ages and backgrounds, and the government’s reforms are driving up quality and enabling people to gain the skills employers need.</p><p>As part of the Industrial Strategy, the department contributes to Sector Deals: business-led agreements between a sector and government, with each side making commitments to work in new and innovative ways to improve productivity.<sup><sup>[2]</sup></sup> All of the sector deals include elements relating to skills and the labour market specific to those sectors, including commitments to increase the number of apprenticeships at all levels across priority sectors. This could include promoting apprenticeships to existing workers, to support progression and re-training to provide the highly skilled workforce employers need.</p><p>Further sector deals are in progress towards formal negotiation. This includes a regular meeting between my right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State and national business bodies.</p><p>Stakeholder meetings cover a variety of topics across the apprenticeships programme.
