answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/02/2019 answer text <p>Figures for the number of people aged 16-19 not in employment, education or training (NEET) are not available at unitary authority or constituency level.</p><p>The Department for Education’s definitive estimates for young people aged 16-18 NEET in England are published in the National Statistics release ‘Participation in education, training and employment’. This can be found here <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-neet" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-neet</a>. These estimates cannot be disaggregated to lower level geographies.</p><p>The Department for Education also publishes estimates for England and the English regions based on quarterly Labour Force Survey (LFS) data. However, due to sample size limitations in the LFS data, it is not possible to produce reliable estimates at unitary authority or constituency level.</p><p>Local authority level NEET estimates for England are published annually as transparency data from the department’s National Client Caseload Information System (NCCIS). For young people aged 16-17, local authorities are required to monitor the extent to which they are meeting their duty to participate in education or training through the NCCIS and figures for 2016/17 and 2017/18 are provided in the table attached. Prior to 2016/17, young people aged 18 were also tracked by local authorities and figures for 2013/14 to 2015/16 are also provided in the table attached.</p><p>It should also be noted that there is a break in the time series as figures prior to 2016/17 had an adjustment applied to the NEET figures to include those whose activity was not known who were likely to be NEET. It also shows the percentage of students who do not sustain their activity and can be used as an approximation for numbers NEET. Many 16 and 17 year olds are enrolled in other forms of education that are not classified as full-time. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/07/2018 answer text <p>The government has raised the participation age to make sure that all young people are supported to continue their education until at least age 18<em>, </em>and invested £7 billion during academic year 2017/18 so there is a place in education or training for every 16 to 19 year old.</p><p>Local authorities (LAs) have statutory duties to identify and track the participation of 16 and 17 year olds, supporting those not participating to do so and making sure that there is sufficient, suitable education and training provision to meet their needs. The September Guarantee places a further duty on LAs to ensure that all year 11 pupils (and year 12 pupils on one year courses) receive an offer of a place in education/training for the following September. It aims to ensure that all young people, regardless of what they achieved in school, understand that there are opportunities that will help them to progress, and to ensure that they get the advice and support they need to find a suitable place.</p><p>A range of provision is available for young people aged 16 to 24 to equip them with the skills and experience they need to progress. This includes Traineeships which provide unemployed young people with employability training, work experience and English and maths; and Supported Internships which offer tailored support for young people aged 16 to 25 who have special educational needs and disabilities. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 15/06/2018 answer text <p>Almost 90% young people in England, and the East Midlands, are now in education, employment or training, but there is more to do.</p><p> </p><p>The proportion of young people not in education, employment or training in the East Midlands has fallen from 12.4% in Q4 of 2010 to 11.1% in Q4 in 2017.</p><p> </p><p>In the East Midlands, the government is providing support to improve skills through Local Enterprise Partnerships (LEPs). For example, over £30 million of Local Growth Funding has been provided through the Derby and Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire LEP, to create a new Nottingham College campus and to extend the Vision West Nottinghamshire College in Mansfield. These projects should create places for 2,000 additional learners.</p><p> </p><p>Through the work of The Careers &amp; Enterprise Company’s Enterprise Adviser Network, we are linking young people in schools and colleges with employers so that they are more aware of the possibilities available to them. All schools in England will be offered an Enterprise Adviser (a senior business volunteer) by 2020.</p><p> </p><p>Across the East Midlands we are also funding various careers and enterprise activities. In the Derby ‘Opportunity Area’, The Careers &amp; Enterprise Company will make sure that those between 11 and 18 years old benefit from four encounters with the world of work. The department publishes statistics on destinations of students in the year after they finish key stage 4 or 16-18 study. Destination measures show the percentage of students with sustained participation in education or employment over six months following the end of their phase of study.</p><p>The table attached shows the percentage of students who did not sustain their employment or education destination throughout the six-month period in (a) Ashfield local authority district, (b) Nottinghamshire and (c) England after completing key stage 4 16-18 study (having studied A levels or other advanced level qualifications).</p><p>Information on pupil destinations is published annually on GOV.UK at: <a href="https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-destinations" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/statistics-destinations</a>.</p><p>The department also publishes an estimate of the number and proportion of young people not in education, employment or training (NEET) in each local authority based on information submitted by local authorities about young people’s participation in education or training in their area.
