This year the priority subject area was special educational needs.</p><p>In round two, the National Scholarship Fund was expanded to include a scholarship for special educational needs (SEN) support staff to undertake a SEN related course or activity. There were 493 applications from SEN support staff and in round three of the National Scholarship Fund there were 225 applications from SEN support staff and in this year’s round (round 4) there were 215 applications from SEN Support Staff.</p><p>Of the £1 million made available for teachers and SEN Support staff in the National Scholarship Fund 2014-15, £792,652.63 was offered to applicants as awards.</p><p>Scholarships will only be awarded where applications are judged to be of sufficient merit. This will determine the number of scholarships awarded. We sought the assistance of colleagues from the sector to form an expert panel to judge the applications. The panel interrogated and ratified the internal assessment process. As impartial educational professionals they brought particular and relevant expertise to the process. These are circumstances where the court can dispense without the consent of a parent, to the placement and adoption of their child if the welfare of the child requires it. This may be a decision in some situations that is not in accordance with the parents’ wishes.</p><p> </p><p>The welfare of a child is paramount and local authorities have a statutory duty to intervene to undertake child protection enquiries and to take action to safeguard and promote the child’s welfare. Individual decisions on adoption are ultimately taken by an independent judge based on the evidence presented.</p><p>Adverse childhood experiences such as neglect or abuse often cause lifelong problems. In most cases, local authorities will provide support so that children can remain with their birth families. However, for those children who cannot live with their birth parents, it is vital we find them permanent new homes as quickly as possible, whether that be by adoption, special guardianship or long-term fostering. A needs assessor will then identify what type of support is essential to enable the student to undertake their chosen course. Potential support for students with vision impairment includes sighted guides, specialist note takers and specialist equipment. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/12/2018 answer text <p>The government expects all higher education providers to fulfil their responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010 to make reasonable adjustments for all disabled higher education students, not just those in receipt of Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSAs).</p><p> </p><p>DSAs remain available to supplement the reasonable adjustments made by institutions, and for the provision of more specialist support such as a mobility trainer for blind or visually impaired students.</p><p> </p><p>Students who wish to dispute their institution's provision of an assessed reasonable adjustment can invoke an exceptional case process under DSA.
