star this property answer text
The department does not collect information on the subjects offered by individual institutions. However, the number of students entering each subject can be provided as a proxy, and this data is available at institutional level from 2011/12. Between 2011/12 and 2016/17, there have been 99 sixth form colleges that were open for at least one year. The attached table gives the number of pupils entering each subject at each institution for each year.

Some sixth form colleges were not always open, have since closed, or have converted to academies (these are denoted as ‘-’ in the figures). Having zero entries into a subject does not necessarily mean that the subject was not offered by the sixth form in that year - it could be the case that no students chose to enter it or if they did, they sat no exams in that particular year. Some sixth forms also have small cohorts of students and therefore the numbers entering different subjects is naturally low and prone to fluctuation; this could lead some sixth forms to have no entries in particular years.

That is why, as we introduce new funding arrangements in the early years, we are providing local authorities with supplementary funding of £55 million a year for their maintained nursery schools for at least two years. This will provide maintained nursery schools with stability by maintaining their current funding, and is part of our record investment in childcare – £6 billion per year by 2020.

We will say more about the funding of maintained nursery schools shortly in our response to the consultation on an Early Years National Funding Formula. star this property answer text
We have received recent representations on this issue. Most recently we received a letter, on 8th January 2016, from Paul King, the headteacher of Green Lane special school, on behalf of designated provision and special schools in Warrington.

We do not disaggregate the results of children in designation provision from the results of children in mainstream schooling when publishing performance data as to do so would be at odds with our principle of inclusivity. Designated provision caters for pupils with a wide range of special educational needs (SEN) and ability; disaggregating their results could suggest that we have a different or lower expectation of them. In many schools, children split their time between mainstream and designated provision. Disaggregating results would create an inconsistent approach between schools with separate provision and those where SEN children are integrated. This could create an incentive to either move SEN children from mainstream to designated provision, or to reduce the amount of integration in schools. However, the performance tables do provide additional contextual information on the number and percentage of pupils on roll with SEN.
