<p>As the regulator of charities in England and Wales, the Charity Commission performs
an important service on behalf of the public.</p><p> </p><p>The Commission has set
out a new strategic direction and outlined what it believes is necessary to meet its
purpose of ensuring charity can thrive and inspire trust so people can improve lives
and strengthen society.</p><p> </p><p>In January 2018, government awarded the Charity
Commission an additional £5 million a year and, in the Civil Society Strategy, committed
to work with the Commission to ensure it is placed on a secure and sustainable financial
footing and adequately resourced to meet future challenges.</p>
