National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs) are not public bodies, and as such are not subject to the Freedom of Information Act. NGBs are typically independent, self-appointed organisations that govern their sports through the common consent of their sport. Transparency is an important principal of good governance, and is reflected in our Code for Sport Governance, with which all bodies in receipt of UK Sport or Sport England funding must now demonstrate compliance. </ins></p><p><del class="ministerial">The cross-Government sport strategy ‘Sporting Future’ set out our intention to encourage as many people and groups to enjoy sport as participants, spectators and in the workforce, including the LGBT community. It also includes a number of other actions to ensure that all under-represented groups can take part in sport and wider physical activity through a focus on local delivery, and working with people through volunteering, coaching and the sporting workforce. Our aim is to increase diversity among sporting organisations and help the sport sector to be more inclusive and welcoming to all.</del></p><p> </p><p><del class="ministerial">Government continues to work with Sport England and National Governing Bodies of sport, alongside organisations including Pride Sports, Stonewall, and Kick it Out on a number of anti-homophobia initiatives aimed at encouraging inclusion. In March, Sport England commissioned Pride Sports to produce a second in depth report on barriers to LGBT participation. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/11/2020 answer text <p>Sports and physical activity providers and facilities are at the heart of our communities, and play a crucial role in supporting adults and children to be active.</p><p>Government has provided unprecedented support to businesses through tax reliefs, cash grants and employee wage support, which many sport clubs have benefited from. An income scheme announced in July by the Secretary of State for Local Government, aims to support local authorities who have incurred irrecoverable loss of income from sales, fees and charge which they had reasonably budgeted for. On 22 October, the Government announced a £100m support fund for local authority leisure centres. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/09/2021 answer text <p>Sports and physical activity are incredibly important for our physical and mental health and all generations and communities should be able to enjoy the health, wellbeing, social and other benefits of being active. Because of this, we made sure that people could exercise at least once a day even during the height of the first period of enhanced national restrictions and we opened up grassroots sport and leisure facilities as soon as it was safe to do so.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>National pride in our Olympic and Paralympic heroes has provided a source of genuine inspiration and motivation for the public. On 15th August, the Government announced that it will provide £232 million to support Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes preparations for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The £232 million will be invested into aspiring Team GB and ParalympicsGB athletes as well as their coaches and support staff, in addition to funding from the National Lottery.</p><p><strong> </strong></p><p>In recognition of how the sector has been impacted by the pandemic working closely with Sport England, UK Sport and the National Lottery, the Government have provided an unprecedented £1 billion to ensure the survival of the grassroots, elite and leisure sectors.</p><p> </p><p>This includes the £220m Sport England has provided directly to support community sport clubs and exercise centres through this pandemic, including their £35 million Community Emergency Fund in supporting people to be more active, including a specific focus on those people who are inactive and engaging people from underrepresented groups.</p><p> </p><p>On 26 January, Sport England also published their strategy ‘Uniting the Movement’ and as part of this have committed an extra £50million to help grassroots sports clubs and organisations affected by the coronavirus pandemic. This is on top of the £18m a year it spends on grassroots facilities through the Football Foundation.</p><p> </p><p>The Government also announced an additional £25m for grassroots sports facilities earlier this year with the Prime Minister committing a further £50m in his Levelling Up speech on 15 July. Sport England invest lottery and exchequer funding on behalf of government to get more people from every background involved in sport and physical activity.</p><p> </p><p>Sport England launched its own strategy, Towards an Active Nation in 2016. Since then it has awarded £532 million across a wide range of projects and organisations, many receiving investment for the first time. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/03/2018 answer text <p>Sport England, the government arms' length body with responsibility for supporting grassroots sport, has a number of investment funds which local sports clubs can apply to, including their Small Grants fund and the Community Asset Fund.</p><p> </p><p>Detailed information, including prospectuses and guidance on how to apply, can be found on Sport England’s website. Sport England's Club Matters web page also contains a section on ‘Club Management’ which covers topics including Community Amateur Sports Clubs (CASC), club structures and managing risk.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, Sport England revised and relaunched its commercial framework in June 2017. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 06/07/2018 answer text <p>UK Sport, an Arm's Length Body of DCMS, works with National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and other partners to help them build strong and positive relationships with their respective International Federations (IFs) and other national and international sporting bodies.</p><p>To do this, investment is prioritised to support International Relations strategies for those sports that receive UK Sport World Class Programme funding and/or have an agreed Major Events hosting target. UK Sport also provides limited investment to those sports which fall just outside of its World Class Programme funding. These include fencing, badminton, goalball, weightlifting and wheelchair rugby.</p><p>The Government has recently confirmed a unique funding support package for British Basketball to help support GB athletes to continue to compete on the world stage in order to inspire communities to engage positively in sport activity. Routed through UK Sport, an investment of £195,000 will be provided to ensure GB athletes can compete at important World Cup qualifying games, which they are hosting in June and July. A further £305,000 has been ring-fenced to enable the GB men’s and women’s senior teams to fulfil further international competition commitments in 2018/19. However, this will only be released if British Basketball can demonstrate a sustainable financial plan to support its athletes going forward.</p><p>UK Sport has a Major Events programme that invests around £5m a year of national lottery funding to secure and stage international sports events including World Championships, European Championships and top level World Series events in the UK. UK Sport has not provided any Major Event funding to basketball or rugby union over the same period. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/09/2018 answer text <p>I discuss the financial sustainability of sport regularly with UK Sport and other stakeholders: Sport in this country is supported through a mix of exchequer, lottery, commercial, membership-driven and other funding.</p><p> </p><p>UK Sport is committed to ensuring that the impact of its decisions on athletes, staff and sports are carefully and sensitively managed, and will work closely with all sports who, following recent investment decisions, will no longer be in receipt of investment on an appropriate transition plan for athletes and staff. Most recently for the Beijing 2022 investment decisions, UK Sport have made a transition fund of circa £1.5 million available and plans for each sport to access this will be developed in partnership with the relevant home country sports institute.</p><p> </p><p>UK Sport reviews its in-cycle funding decisions every year, as part of its annual reporting requirements. This means that the door remains open to sports where they can demonstrate increased medal potential. UK Sport's Medal Support Plan invests in athletes in otherwise unfunded sports who have had significant and consistent world level success. UK Sport's consultation on their future investment principles post-Tokyo 2020 will engage with stakeholders and the wider public. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/10/2018 answer text <p>Government's Arms Length Bodies (ALBs), including the four DCMS Sport ALBs (Sport England, UK Sport, the Sports Ground Safety Authority and UK Anti-Doping), have to comply with the Treasury's publication Managing Public Money. They are also subject to various other spending controls which set out how they should allocate and govern their funding. ALBs are audited annually to ensure that they are complying with these controls.</p><p> </p><p>When allocating funding, ALBs must also comply with relevant equality legislation.</p><p> </p><p>Government's Sporting Future strategy sets out the principles and priorities by which sport bodies should invest their funding.
