The major elements for 4G and 5G are generated through well respected standards organisations with good industry and regulator involvement. Industry stakeholders use these bodies to agree relevant interoperability definitions between all major elements.</p><p> </p><p>My Department is leading a cross-Government review into the supply chain arrangements for the UK’s telecoms infrastructure. The Review is considering both the technology and economic aspects of the supply chain &amp; the development and adoption of technology standards are relevant factors. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/05/2019 answer text <p>It was announced in 2016 as part of the National Cyber Security Strategy that SS7 and Diameter protocols used within mobile networks would be tackled within the National Cyber Security Center’s (NCSC) published Active Cyber Defence programme. The NCSC continues to work closely with mobile operators to reduce the vulnerability of UK networks. The Government is consulting on whether this proposed scope is a suitable basis for an effective approach. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 23/04/2019 answer text <p>The Online Harms White Paper consultation proposes that the duty of care applies to companies that provide services or tools that allow, enable or facilitate users to share or discover user-generated content, or interact with each other online. It, therefore, would not typically apply to consumer smart devices. Harms suffered by individuals that result directly from a breach of data protection, breach of cyber-security or hacking are also excluded from scope.</p><p> </p><p>However, the Government has taken a number of actions to increase the security of consumer smart devices. In October 2018, DCMS published the Code of Practice for Consumer Internet of Things (IoT) Security to support manufacturers in building strong security into smart products by design. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/04/2019 answer text <p>Protecting UK businesses from cyber attacks is a key priority within the Government’s National Cyber Security Strategy 2016-2021.</p><p> </p><p>The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) works with a wide range of partners to provide advice and support to businesses and organisations across the UK, enabling them to put measures in place to protect against cyber attacks. Up to date guidance - such as the Small Business Guide for SMEs - is freely available on NCSC’s website and is underpinned by NCSC’s insights into cyber threats. The NCSC has also published its Board Toolkit to help company boards better understand cyber security.</p><p> </p><p>Government continues to engage with businesses of all types and through multiple channels to raise awareness of cyber security best practice.
