answer text <p>Government's manifesto commitment continues to guarantee a National Citizen Service (NCS) place for every young person who wants one so that it becomes a rite of passage across the country.</p><p> </p><p>We have been working with the NCS Trust on new projections of demand, and we expect them to reach 199,000 participants in 2019/20 supported by over £1bn of funding over this parliament.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The NCS Trust is being incorporated as a Royal Charter body. The Charter specifies that the Trust must have regard to 'encouraging participants to take an interest in debate on matters of local or national political interest, and promoting their understanding of how to participate in national and local elections.'</p><p> </p><p>NCS is not primarily a citizenship education programme; it is about broader personal development and social mixing. Nonetheless government wants NCS to provide young people with the opportunity to develop a range of skills, including political literacy.</p><p> </p><p>Later this year, Government plans to publish guidance on NCS for schools and colleges, which will include a link to citizenship education.</p> more like this

However the independent evaluation of the National Citizen Service (NCS) in 2014 demonstrates that NCS graduates give back an additional 6 hours volunteering per month to their community.</p><p> </p><p>On 14 December 2016 the Minister for Civil Society announced a review into full time social action by young people. The review will look at how to increase participation in full-time social action by reviewing the opportunities and barriers faced by organisations supporting young people. The advisory panel will include experts from the private and voluntary sectors and is expected to make recommendations to the Minister for Civil Society by October 2017.</p> more like this

answer text <p>In 2015/16 the Office for Civil Society invested £1 million to support the development of a national and local fund to specifically target young people from C2DE socio-economic group and those living in rural areas. The National Youth Social Action Fund will develop social action opportunities for over 20,000 young people.</p><p> </p><p>In September 2016 the Prime Minister announced £40 million joint investment between government and the Big Lottery Fund to support Step Up To Serve’s #iwill campaign. The #iwill Fund will reach those that have not yet participated in social action including those from C2DE families.</p> more like this
