unstar this property answer text <p>The UK carbon budgets set in legislation are among the most stringent in the world, with the fifth carbon budget requiring a 57% cut in emissions by 2028-2032 from a 1990 baseline.</p><p> </p><p>The Clean Growth Strategy sets out our plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through to 2032, showing one possible pathway for meeting the fifth carbon budget through domestic action.</p><p> </p><p>Projections show that we are on track to deliver over 90% of our required performance against 1990 levels for the fourth and fifth carbon budgets, even before many of the policies and proposals in the Clean Growth Strategy are taken into account.</p><p> </p><p>Our progress in delivering on the ambitious policies and proposals set out in the Clean Growth Strategy– across housing, business, transport, the natural environment and green finance - is set out in detail in the Government Response to the Committee on Climate Change’s Annual Progress Report to Parliament. This includes an assessment of progress against key actions and milestones.</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>The Government’s priority is to keep consumers safe.</p><p> </p><p>The review by the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) published on 4<sup>th</sup> April found that there is a low risk of harm or injury from lint fires in modified Whirlpool tumble dryers. The evidence indicates that the modification reduces the risk of fire.</p><p> </p><p>OPSS has published specific requirements for Whirlpool to act on and issued a Decision Letter requiring that Whirlpool take further actions, including improving its management of risk and setting up a more rigorous system of quality assurance to ensure modifications are correctly installed and remain effective over time.</p><p> </p><p>OPSS will hold Whirlpool to account in regard to these requirements as part of the company’s obligations with regard to the safety of products.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Network charging is a matter for Ofgem as the independent regulator, and decisions on any changes to charging arrangements are for it to make. Ofgem is considering the future of some embedded benefits, which relate to the charging arrangements for smaller generators connected to the electricity distribution system, as part of its ongoing Targeted Charging Review. The review is seeking to ensure that all parties connected to the electricity network make a fair contribution to its fixed costs. Ofgem has not yet concluded its review, and is currently considering responses received to a consultation held earlier this year on reform proposals.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>On 17 December 2018 we published the Good Work Plan, which sets out our vision for the future of the labour market and our ambitious plan for implementing the recommendations arising from the Taylor Review of Modern Working Practices.</p><p> </p><p>Since publishing the Good Work Plan, we have passed legislation that means:</p><ul><li>All workers receive a day one statement of rights setting out leave entitlements and pay;</li><li>An maximum additional penalty that Employment Tribunals can use quadrupling from £5,000 to £20,000, helping ensure workers are protected from employers who show malice, spite or gross oversight;</li><li>The ending of the Swedish Derogation, the legal loophole that enables some firms to pay agency workers on less than permanent staff, which will benefit up to 120,000 agency workers;</li><li>New agency workers will receive a key facts page before signing up with an agency, providing them with greater clarity, particularly around their pay; and</li><li>The threshold for an information and consultation request being reduced from 10% to 2% of employees, meaning a stronger voice in the workplace.</li></ul><p> </p><p>In delivering the Good Work Plan. we will also:</p><ul><li>Legislate to make improvements to the clarity of employment status tests to reflect the reality of modern working relationships;</li><li>Bring forward proposals for consultation on creating a new, single labour market enforcement agency to better ensure that vulnerable workers are more aware of and can exercise their rights, and that businesses are more supported to comply with the law;</li><li>Enforce holiday pay for vulnerable workers;</li><li>Introduce a right to request a more predictable and stable contract;</li><li>Launch a new scheme to name and shame, for the first time, employers who fail to pay employment tribunal awards.</li></ul>
