	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/11/2018 answer text <p>The detail of the UK’s association to the EU Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation &amp; restriction of Chemicals programme after the UK leaves the EU is part of ongoing negotiations. The UK and the EU have a mutual interest in maintaining our integrated chemical supply chains as the chemicals industry is an economically significant sector in both regions, and it underpins key downstream sectors including automotive, aerospace, construction and pharmaceuticals. In the White Paper on our future relationship with the European Union published in July, the UK has proposed that chemicals are part of a UK-EU free trade area on goods, with continued UK participation in the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) underpinning this arrangement. In last year’s Spending Review the Government committed to protecting science resource funding in real terms from its 2015-16 level of £4.7 billion a year for the rest of the parliament. The Treasury decision to underwrite the grants of competitively bid for EU research funding will give British participants and their EU partners the assurance and certainty needed to plan ahead for collaborative projects that can run over many years. These include the use of EGNOS at UK airports which allow aircraft to land even during poor weather, as well as the commercial benefits to UK companies involved in the design, building and operation of the systems. 	answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/07/2017 answer text <p>The Department invested €1.44 bn with the European Space Agency (ESA) at a Ministerial meeting in Lucerne in December 2016. Before making this investment in line with normal Government practice we undertook a vigorous business case process. The investment was balanced to achieve a number of objectives including excellent science, earth observation including climate study, commercial growth in telecommunications and other technology as well as protecting the space environment. My department has supported and promoted various initiatives to promote gender diversity on boards and across the public sector. These include:</p><p> </p><ul><li><p>the Lord Davies Review, which established a business-led voluntary approach and has seen the proportion of women on FTSE 350 boards increase from 9.5% in 2011 to 24.4% in September 2017;</p></li><li><p>the subsequent Hampton-Alexander Review, which has set a target of 33% women on FTSE 350 boards by 2020;</p></li><li><p>in conjunction with UK Government Investments, actively supporting the Future Boards Scheme, a business-led initiative to help talented, senior women get board-level development opportunities and gain the experience they need to successfully apply for board positions;</p></li></ul><ul><li><p>a new Business Diversity and Inclusion Group to improve the coordination of diversity initiatives and provide a clear and coherent message on what is expected of the business community; as well as</p></li><li><p>work promoting boardroom diversity in the public and third sectors.</p><p> </p></li></ul><p>All of these various initiatives will contribute to our continued efforts to ensure gender-balanced representation and that boardrooms reflect their workforces and wider society.</p><p><strong> </strong></p> answering member constituency Stourbridge answering member printed Margot James question first answered 11/09/2017 12:58:10 answering member 4115 label Biography information for Margot James

Friend the Secretary of State has established the Carillion Taskforce, to advise on the impact on small businesses and employees affected by Carillion insolvency. The Taskforce’s attendees included representatives from leading business bodies, the construction trade sector, unions, banks and government. This has already led to useful collaborations, in particular in relation to ensuring firms and employees have access to support from Government and the banks.</p><p> </p><p>The nature of Carillion’s business was to sub-contract significant proportions of its work and a significant number of those sub-contractors have sub-contracted further elements. The complexity of the contracting structure is such that it is not possible for the Official Receiver at this stage in the liquidation process to have a complete picture of companies and therefore projects affected across the UK. He is continuing to work through Carillion’s systems to identify all contracts.
