unstar this property answer text <p>Companies House is constantly looking to improve the integrity of information that is filed on the companies register. New systems have been introduced over the last 12 months to help ensure that inaccurate or fraudulent information is spotted. Their integrity team has also expanded and there are currently around 80 staff working on integrity issues.</p><p> </p><p>Following the evaluation of the UK’s anti-money laundering regime by the Financial Action Task Force, the Government will actively consider areas where the regulatory framework can be improved. This will include how assurance is provided over information filed with Companies House.</p><p> </p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>Civil enforcement is a devolved matter and the powers of Scottish Courts in this respect are therefore a matter for the Scottish Government.</p><p> </p><p>However, the Government is clear that where an employment tribunal has made an award then it should be paid promptly. That is why BEIS introduced the UK-wide unpaid award penalty scheme, in addition to other existing enforcement action, to improve award payment rates. Since introduction in April 2016, the unpaid award penalty scheme has levied penalties of £485,646 and secured payment of £829,343 of previously unpaid employment tribunal awards as of January 2018.</p><p> </p><p>The Government also committed to further reforms to enforcement, including unpaid awards, following the Matthew Taylor Review of Modern Working Practices and will update on progress on those reforms in due course.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>(a) From June 2016 (when Persons of Significant Control criminal offences came into force) to September 2018 criminal proceedings have been issued against 99 individuals (directors) and 89 companies.</p><p> </p><p>(b) 5 individuals have been convicted - 4 convictions were for offences contrary to section 790VA Companies Act 2006 (failing to update Companies House with details of relevant entries to a company’s PSC Register.) A further 4 companies were convicted of the same offence. 1 individual has been convicted of an offence contrary to section 790F Companies Act 2006 (failing to make relevant enquiries relating to a company’s PSC). 2 companies have been convicted of the same offence.</p><p> </p><p>(c) The total amount of fines for these offences is £7,000.</p> more like this

unstar this property answer text <p>We want the UK to be the best place to start or grow a business and we are supporting SMEs to do so. As part of the Industrial Strategy we have an action plan to unlock over £20bn of investment in innovative and high potential businesses. As part of this, British Patient Capital – a wholly-owned commercial subsidiary of the British Business Bank – has been given resources of £2.5bn and will deliver a new programme designed to support UK businesses with high growth potential to access the long-term financing they need to scale up.</p><p> </p><p>We have also created a network of 38 Growth Hubs across England, and we are tackling late payments by appointing a Small Business Commissioner.</p><p> </p><p>Growth Hubs are a single point of contact providing SMEs with access to information and advice. The D2N2 Growth Hub - operating in the Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham and Nottinghamshire area - has had 6,583 interactions with SMEs since its launch in December 2015.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>SMEs across the UK benefit from programmes operated by the Government-owned British Business Bank (BBB). BBB programmes are currently supporting £575.2m of finance for SMEs in the East Midlands Region, across 3,669 businesses. Also, as of 31 March through the BBB-owned Start-Up Loans programme, 779 loans have been made to individuals in Nottinghamshire, totalling £5.2m.</p><p> </p><p>The Business Support Helpline, Government’s free centralised business advice and support service, has received 432 contacts from the Nottinghamshire area since 2015.</p><p> </p><p>Since 2015/16 nearly 70 SMEs in the Nottinghamshire area have received Innovate UK funding in total and this includes some companies who are in receipt of multiple awards. Innovate UK is the UK’s innovation agency, driving productivity and economic growth by supporting businesses to develop and realise the potential of new ideas.</p><p> </p><p>UK businesses can access core services, information and guidance on starting up and running a business, as well as their statutory rights and obligations, on <strong>GOV.UK</strong> (<a href="https://www.gov.uk/set-up-business" target="_blank">https://www.gov.uk/set-up-business</a>).</p>

unstar this property answer text <p>The Industrial Strategy aims to make the UK the best place in the world to start or grow a business. The Start Up Loans programme helps individuals access the necessary finance to start or grow a business in the UK. In addition to receiving a loan, applicants are offered free business support and access to a business mentor for 12 months after receiving funding, thereby enhancing their chances of success. Individuals can borrow between £500 and £25,000 and loan repayment periods are between one and five years.</p><p> </p><p>The Start Up Loans programme is managed by the Start Up Loans Company, a subsidiary of the British Business Bank. At the end of July 2018 the Start Up Loans programme had lent £436m to over 57,000 entrepreneurs.</p><p> </p><p>Since the inception of the programme in 2012, 808 loans have been distributed in Nottinghamshire at a value of £5.4m with repayments of £2.2m to date.</p> more like this
