answer text <p>There continues to be good progress on the free trade agreement currently being negotiated between the EU and US, also known as the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), in particular on the technical work which would underpin the final deal.The next negotiating round is taking place 19-23 October in the US.</p><br /><p>A trade and investment agreement between the EU and US offers an enormous economic benefit in jobs, investment and lower prices, worth potentially £10 billion a year to the UK Our ambition remains to reach political agreement during the Obama administration and this goal has been given renewed impetus by the completion of the Trans Pacific Partnership.</p> more like this

answer text <p>A large number of documents related to these negotiations are available on the European Commission’s website on the page ‘EU negotiating texts in TTIP’. We are working with our counterparts in the European Commission and the US to both declassify as many documents as practicable and to give UK parliamentarians equivalent access to classified documents related to this agreement as that afforded to Members of the European Parliament.</p> more like this

answer text <p>I am not aware of this department having received any representations of this nature.</p><p>The UK has protected the NHS and public services in all trade agreements and will continue to do so in this deal. This is non-negotiable.</p><p>As Commissioner Malmström and US Trade Representative Froman have said “No EU or US trade agreement requires governments to privatise any service, or prevents governments from expanding the range of services they supply to the public. Moreover, these agreements do not prevent governments from providing public services previously supplied by private service suppliers; contracting a public service to private providers does not mean that it becomes irreversibly part of the commercial sector.”</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK has protected the NHS and public services in all trade agreements and will continue to do so in this deal. We have made clear to our international partners that this is non-negotiable and sought assurances from them.</p><p>In response, in January, the European Commissioner for Trade, Cecilia Malmström, wrote an open letter to the then Minister of State for Trade and Investment, clarifying that EU countries will be free to decide how they run their public services and stating explicitly that the NHS is not at risk from this free trade agreement.</p><p>In March, she and the US Trade Representative, Mike Froman issued a joint public statement reiterating this.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The EU-US Free Trade Agreement is expected to be a mixed agreement to which the UK will individually be a party. In that case before it can come fully into force, it will be subject to agreement by each Member State. In the UK this does not require legislation, instead Parliament will receive the complete draft text of the agreement and can scrutinise it through debates in both Houses. We will not know for certain whether any implementing legislation will be necessary until the agreement is closer to completion.</p><p> </p> more like this
