This exemption was recently extended to businesses with up to 500 employees, potentially reducing red tape and bureaucracy for up to 40,000 more businesses.</p><p> </p><p>The British Business Bank is supporting over £12.2bn of finance to over 96,000 SMEs. These confirm the pressures faced by SMEs from increased input costs since the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, notably food ingredients, fertilizer and energy, as well as the ending of measures introduced during the pandemic to protect businesses from their creditors.</p><p> </p><p>The SME Finance Monitor notes that the proportion of SMEs using external finance is down year-on-year, at 38% in Q2 2022 (the most recent period available) compared to 45% for the equivalent period in 2021. The Government is carrying out a major cross-government drive to reform, repeal and replace outdated retained EU law. This will aim to cut £1 billion of red tape for UK businesses, ease regulatory burdens and contribute to the Government’s mission to unite and level up the country.</p><p> </p><p>Through a reformed Better Regulation Framework we will foster alternatives to regulation, bear down on costs, and assess the effects of regulation on innovation and competition in order to deliver growth. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/02/2020 answer text <p>We define scaleups using the OECD definition of high growth, i.e. an enterprise with a cumulative average annual growth in employees or turnover greater than 20 per cent per annum over a three-year period, and with more than 10 employees at the beginning of the period.</p><p> </p><p>Scaleups play an important role in the UK economy: they generate around 20% of all turnover in the economy and around 15% of employment, and Scale Ups can play a role in driving innovation. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/10/2019 answer text <p>Ministers and officials have regular engagement with a large number of businesses across all sectors, including from the automotive, pharmaceutical and retail and food sectors, to ensure they are prepared for the UK leaving the EU on the 31st October.</p><p>Ministers have hosted a regular series of roundtables both in Westminster and around the UK in recent months, where they have had the chance to speak to and hear directly from a wide range of businesses both large and small.</p><p>In order to help business prepare for exiting the EU on 31 October, the Government have come together to deliver a new series of 'One HMG' events, starting from Monday 16 September to 18 October.
