This exemption was recently extended to businesses with up to 500 employees, potentially reducing red tape and bureaucracy for up to 40,000 more businesses.</p><p> </p><p>The British Business Bank is supporting over £12.2bn of finance to over 96,000 SMEs. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 24/02/2020 answer text <p>We define scaleups using the OECD definition of high growth, i.e. an enterprise with a cumulative average annual growth in employees or turnover greater than 20 per cent per annum over a three-year period, and with more than 10 employees at the beginning of the period.</p><p> </p><p>Scaleups play an important role in the UK economy: they generate around 20% of all turnover in the economy and around 15% of employment, and Scale Ups can play a role in driving innovation. BEIS is in regular contact with sectors and business stakeholders to ensure we understand their concerns.</p><p> </p><p>We are working to ensure that UK businesses are as well informed and prepared for leaving the EU as possible and to advise them on the steps they may need to take to prepare for EU exit.</p><p> </p><p>We have launched a public information campaign about how EU exit will affect businesses and the practical steps they will need to take to be ready. We have agreed in principle the terms of the UK’s smooth and orderly exit from the EU, as set out in the Withdrawal Agreement. However, it is the duty of a responsible government to prepare business for a range of potential outcomes, and, as such, Government published 106 technical notices over the summer.
