Source: CPS Management Information System

While the volume of prosecutions
in the Area have fallen by 39% during the 8 year period, it is important to be aware
that the types of cases prosecuted by Merseyside and Cheshire CPS have changed significantly
in the period between 2010 and 2018. The Area is prosecuting more serious and complex
cases as evidenced by a 21% increase in homicide, a 23% increase in offences against
the person and a 62% increase in sexual offences cases. During this period, minor
motoring cases have fallen by 52% in the Area. This followed changes to the list of
specified offences made in 2012 which transferred responsibility for prosecuting many
low level motoring offences back to the police.
