It also expects them to assess the types of specialist housing needed for older people, and reflect this in their planning policies. The specific types of housing that this can include is not prescribed.</p><p>We will publish new planning guidance shortly that will provide advice to authorities about implementing this policy, in accordance with the Neighbourhood Planning Act commitment. In our Housing White Paper, ’Fixing our Broken Housing Market, we recognised that there is a fundamental need to do more to ensure that more homes suitable for older people are being built as part of our overall ambition to increase housing supply. More broadly, the Department encourages local authorities to consider supporting local community events. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 28/02/2019 answer text <p>The Government recognises the importance of local funding for support services for vulnerable people including those over 55.</p><p>The funding for housing related support services is subsumed within the local government finance settlement. This funding was ring-fenced until 2009, when the ring-fence was removed thus allowing all local authorities to manage funding according to local priorities. It is up to local authorities to decide which services they wish to fund.</p><p>We are currently undertaking a review of housing related-support, to help us better understand how housing and support fit together. The review will give us a fuller picture into how housing-related support is provided for supported housing across England.</p><p>The Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) can also support all eligible, including older, people to adapt their homes, to make them safe and suitable for their needs. Since 2012-13, the Government has invested more than £2.2 billion into the Grant, providing around 280,000 adaptations by the end of 2018-19. The grant has more than doubled from £220 million in 2015-16 to £505 million in 2019-20. We supported the ‘Unremembered Project’, which recognised the contribution made by labour corps from across Asia, Africa and the Caribbean, and this included a focus on the Chinese Labour Corps. We also supported the Meridian Society to work in schools and communities to highlight the almost 100,000 men recruited by Britain to provide essential logistical support in Europe. Currently, we are also supporting the <a href="http://ensuringweremember.org.uk/" target="_blank"> ‘Ensuring We Remember</a> ’ campaign, to create a permanent memorial in central London, to be unveiled in 2019.
