Verified data on the total number of prisoners who have died having tested positive
for COVID-19, or where there was a clinical assessment that COVID-19 was a contributory
factor in their deaths, is published on GOV.UK. The latest published figures are for
the period up to 30 June in which 149 prisoner deaths were reported. This figure includes
those on remand as well as serving custodial sentences. Of these 149 prisoner deaths,
123 are suspected or confirmed to be due to COVID-19. The remaining 27 deaths are
believed to be due to other causes, although the individuals had tested positive for
COVID-19.
