answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/09/2023 answer text <p>The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) is dedicated to ensuring all candidates have equal and fair access to the driving theory test.</p><p> </p><p>The DVSA has worked with the British Dyslexia Association to implement changes to the theory test to make it more accessible for learners allowing them to have their knowledge and understanding checked, without putting them at an undue disadvantage.</p><p> </p><p>These changes include:</p><ul><li>removing continuation questions</li><li>adding more pictures</li><li>replacing words like “increase” and “decrease” with words like “faster” and “slower”</li><li>increasing the font size</li><li>removing red font</li></ul><p> </p><p>Candidates who have reading difficulties can request an English or Welsh voiceover. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 27/03/2023 answer text <p>The Government recognises that a whole package of measures is needed to support the switch to zero emission driving.</p><p>HM Treasury has ensured that EVs continue to benefit from a favourable tax regime. There are now over a million plug-in vehicles on UK roads, the majority of which are exempt or pay minimal VED. From 2025, electric vehicles will still have preferential first year rates of VED in comparison to the most polluting vehicles. There are also preferential rates of company car tax for EVs out to April 2028. These measures will continue to support the uptake of electric vehicles.</p><p>Ministers across government departments continue to collaborate on the implementation of the Net Zero Strategy. In the Strategy, the Government announced that it will introduce a zero emission vehicle mandate, setting targets for a percentage of manufacturers' new car and van sales to be zero emission each year from 2024. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/05/2021 answer text <p>The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) understands the effect that the pandemic has had on all those involved with driver training and testing. It is inevitable the demand for existing and new learners wanting to book theory and practical driving tests will be higher than usual.</p><p> </p><p>The DVSA has put in place a number of measures to increase practical driving tests. These include offering overtime and annual leave buy back to examiners, asking all those qualified to conduct tests, but who do not do so as part of their current day job, to return to conducting tests, and conducting out of hours testing (such as on public holidays). The DVSA is also running a recruitment campaign to increase the overall number of examiners. The aim is to increase testing capacity and reduce the backlog as quickly as possible, whilst maintaining a COVID-secure service for customers and examiners.</p><p> </p><p>The DVSA is aware there has been an unprecedented demand for theory tests in Scotland. The DVSA is working with its theory test provider, Pearson VUE, to explore ways in which it can increase theory test capacity in Scotland, including extending opening hours and running tests on extra days where possible.</p><p> </p><p>The DVSA is continuing to work with the Scottish Government but as a result of the 2 metre physical distancing restrictions in Scotland, it is unable to increase the number of desks used to take tests.</p><p> </p><p>The DVSA and its theory test contract provider, Pearson VUE, have explored the possibility of delivering the theory tests outside of existing sites, but this was found to be not suitable as it is dependent upon a physical infrastructure within the Pearson VUE network.</p> answering member constituency Redditch answering member printed Rachel Maclean grouped question UIN 318 319 question first answered 17/05/2021 10:50:01 answering member 4668 label Biography information for Rachel Maclean
