answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/02/2018 answer text <p>The Government is committed to improving wifi and mobile connectivity for rail customers.</p><p> </p><p>The Department has taken steps to improve the wifi on rail services to and from York by putting in place requirements for the provision of wifi on the relevant franchises (Cross Country, East Midlands, First TransPennine Express, Northern and Virgin Trains East Coast). Good progress has been made and this work is due to be completed by 2020.</p><p> </p><p>Furthermore, we are working with the Department of Digital Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to see what further improvements can be made to mobile connectivity on trains. A joint Call for Evidence, published on 28 December 2017, is seeking views to inform our thinking on policy and delivery, and support the ambition to have digital connectivity on our railways that meets passenger expectations. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/02/2018 answer text <p>HS2 Ltd is the executive non-departmental public body established to develop and deliver the HS2 programme.</p><p> </p><p>This is a multi-year amalgamated service contract.</p><p> </p><p>£220,000 represents the value at which the contract was advertised – as a two year contract with a two year extension option (four years in total). It does not reflect the final service contract value. The service contract awarded has a budget of £55,000 per annum. As this is a call-off contract and the spend fluctuates on how many times HS2 is mentioned in the media the total value will not necessarily be the total spend.</p><p> </p><p>HS2 Ltd competitively tendered this contract requirement to ensure best value to the taxpayer in line with statutory and other requirements. Commercial submissions were evaluated by HS2 Ltd as part of the tender, combined with technical outputs, with the aim of ensuring best overall value was obtained. The Welsh Government has recently consulted on proposed changes to the licensing of taxi and private hire vehicles and once a response is issued an informed discussion of any cross-border implications issues can be held. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/02/2018 answer text <p>Rail passengers are more willing and able than ever to demand and get fair compensation if their train is late or cancelled, with over £73m paid out to successful claimants in 2016/17.
