Under the new industry structure, Great British Railways will engage with suppliers from a position of strength, offering high-value opportunities to the private sector to compete to deliver world-class solutions for passengers. Simpler procurement within a stable commercial environment will give the private sector confidence to engage and will help to remove barriers to investment and innovation.
more like this

answer text
The Government has committed £2.5 billion to offset the higher upfront costs of electric vehicles and funding to accelerate the rollout of the charging infrastructure. The Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme has been a phenomenal success and is heavily oversubscribed. We have considered carefully how to manage a transition from its current scope to one that is more focused on those that need it most.

The Government recognises the difficulties that people renting or leasing properties can face when looking to install chargepoints. We are therefore reforming the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme to focus our resources on helping them. This will give more support to people who live in flats or rent. We are expanding who can apply to allow landlords, such as social housing providers, to access the scheme and providing them with additional support to install chargepoints for parking in apartment blocks.

more like this

answer text
The Integrated Rail Plan (IRP) was underpinned by a clear evidence base, as set out in the technical annex. This analysis drew on some of Transport for the North’s (TfN) own work on Northern Powerhouse Rail (NPR), and provided an assessment of the options considered against the IRP’s strategic objectives. The economic impact of each option can be considered fundamentally from the journey times, connectivity, and capacity set out in the multi-criteria tables. TfN will continue to provide strategic advice to the Department in its role as NPR co-sponsor to support the Government’s ambitions to level-up the country. Levelling up is both a strategic and economic objective of the NPR programme and will be further assessed in the NPR Strategic Outline Business Case.
more like this

answer text
The Department has committed over £1.3 billion to accelerate the roll out of charging infrastructure on motorways and major A roads, in homes and businesses and on-street. This funding includes the Local EV Infrastructure Fund, which will be available to English local authorities in 2022/3. This fund will facilitate the roll-out of larger scale charging infrastructure projects across the country.

Local authorities in rural areas are also able to take advantage of the On-street Residential Chargepoint Scheme, which assists them with the cost of installing chargepoints on residential streets for their residents without access to private parking.

To support local authorities in accessing this funding, DfT funds Energy Saving Trust to offer expert advice on EV charging and support on developing EV strategies. Energy Saving Trust, in partnership with DfT, also hosts a library of webinars and guidance for local authorities on installing charging points. This includes webinars specifically for rural local authorities.

answer text
The Government is investing £1.3 billion to accelerate the roll out of charging infrastructure over the next four years. We are targeting this support on rapid chargepoints on motorways and major roads, and installing more on-street chargepoints near homes and workplaces to make charging as easy as refuelling a petrol or diesel car.

Later this year Government will publish our EV Infrastructure Strategy. This will define our vision for the continued roll-out of a world-leading charging infrastructure network across the UK. It will also set out the action plan for charging infrastructure rollout to ensure this is delivered at the pace needed to achieve the 2030/35 phase out successfully and to accelerate the transition to a zero-emission car and van fleet. We will set out our next steps to address barriers to private investment, level up charge point provision, and regulate to protect consumers.
more like this
