</p><p>The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) also allocates research
funding to institutions. HEFCE’s quality-related research funding (QR) is allocated
as an un-hypothecated block grant, which institutions are free to invest according
to their own priorities. It is a matter for individual Higher Education Institutions
to determine how it is ultimately distributed to particular activities/subjects.</p><p><strong>
