answer text
The Government has been clear that safeguarding the rights of UK and EU citizens, including EEA and Swiss nationals, is our first priority in negotiations. The UK’s published policy paper, ‘Safeguarding the position of EU citizens in the UK and UK nationals in the EU’, set out our offer on citizens’ rights to the EU and stated that we would discuss similar arrangements with Switzerland and the non-EU EEA states of Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein (collectively referred to as ‘the EFTA states’ in the publication). We have already commenced constructive official-level scoping talks with all four states on citizens' rights.
more like this

answer text
The European Union (Withdrawal) Bill aims, so far as possible, to provide that the laws which apply immediately before exit day will continue to apply in the same way after we leave. The act of leaving the EU means that it is inevitable that some elements of the EU’s supranational legal framework will not - and should not - be retained.

Clause 5 and the accompanying Schedule 1 set out a number of important exceptions to the general retention of EU law under the Bill. The provisions in this Clause and Schedule cover the Charter of Fundamental Rights, the principle of supremacy, challenges to the validity of an EU instrument, the general principles of EU law and Francovich damages.

more like this

answer text
The people voted to leave the EU in a referendum which Parliament voted to hold. A clear majority of the electorate voted to leave the EU and we will respect the will of the British people.

Since then the Government has been undertaking rigorous and extensive analysis work to support our exit negotiations, to define our future partnership with the EU, and to inform our understanding of how EU exit will affect the UK’s domestic policies and frameworks.

This includes a full suite of economic analysis, as you would expect from a responsible Government. This means looking at 58 sectors as well as cross-cutting regulatory, economic and social issues to help inform our negotiation positions.

We have been clear that we recognise Parliament’s rights relating to the publication of documents. However, ministers face conflicting responsibilities - such as a clear obligation not to disclose information when doing so would not be in the public interest. And Parliament has previously voted not to release information that would be prejudicial to our negotiating position.

answer text
The Department for Exiting the European Union, working with officials across government, continues to undertake a wide range of analysis to support progress in the negotiations. However, this analysis is not, and nor has it ever been, a series of impact assessments examining the quantitative impact of Brexit on each sector.

The House has previously voted not to release information that would be prejudicial to our negotiating position. As the Written Ministerial Statement laid by the Department for Exiting the EU on 7 November made clear, it will take the Department, working with other departments, time to collate and bring together this information in a way that is accessible and informative for the Committee. The Government is committed to providing the information to the Committee as soon as is possible. As set out in the Written Ministerial Statement, we expect this to be no more than three weeks.
more like this
