answer text <p>The Department for International Trade is committed to building and enhancing our relationships across the world as part of our global Britain agenda. We have consulted on potential FTAs with the USA, Australia, New Zealand and accession to the CPTPP.</p><p> </p><p>Fulfilling a 2017 manifesto commitment my Department appointed Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioners (HMTCs) based in 9 overseas regions which between them cover all anglosphere countries. Each HMTC is responsible for delivering a Regional Trade Plan which includes specific reference to growing UK exports to those regions and to opening markets globally.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department for International Trade is working to strengthen the UK’s trade and investment relationships with countries such as Azerbaijan and Armenia as we negotiate our exit from the EU. The UK is seeking continuity of existing trade arrangements with Azerbaijan and Armenia by replicating the effects of the EU-Azerbaijan Partnership &amp; Cooperation Agreements and EU-Armenia Comprehensive &amp; Enhanced Partnership Agreement when we leave the EU.</p><p> </p><p>On 3 April 2018, Judith Slater was appointed as Her Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for Eastern Europe and Central Asia to improve trade and collaboration with countries in this region, including Azerbaijan and Armenia. The Prime Minister has also appointed Trade Envoys to promote bilateral trade and investment in this region, including my Honourable friend the Member for Wrekin for Armenia and Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne for Azerbaijan.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The UK Government is working with the Government of Thailand to address existing trade barriers between the two countries, and to consider options for strengthening our bilateral trading relationship in the future.</p><p> </p><p>The Secretary of State for International Trade visited Thailand from 4-6 April 2018. Dr Fox discussed the UK’s future trading relationship with Thailand, emphasising the importance of an open economy and transparent and predictable regulatory environment.</p><p> </p><p>Total trade in goods and services between the UK and Thailand was £6.3bn to the end of 2018, an increase of 6.1% from 2017.</p> more like this

answer text <p>We are continuing to work with the Southern African Customs Union and Mozambique partner countries, including Lesotho to replicate the effects of the EU’s Economic Partnership Agreement.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, the Taxation (Cross-Border Trade) Act enables the UK to put in place a trade preferences scheme for when we leave the EU. This will grant duty-free, quota-free access to Least Developed Countries, including Lesotho.</p> more like this

answer text <p>UK beverages are an important contributor to our overall food and drink exports and were worth £7.6bn in 2018, an increase of 4.9% on 2017. Whisky alone accounted for over 63% of beverage exports and DIT works with bodies such as the Scotch Whisky Association across trade policy and market access, working to reduce trade barriers and assist getting products into overseas markets.</p><p> </p><p>DIT collaborates closely with industry directly and key stakeholders such as the Wine and Spirits Trade Association across a wide range of export promotion activities such as meet the buyer events and trade missions; both in the UK and overseas.</p> more like this

answer text <p>Over the last three years, UK Export Finance (UKEF) has provided more than £1 billion in support for UK companies delivering critical infrastructure projects in Iraq, including power stations, and water and waste water treatment projects. There is significant interest in UKEF support for UK companies’ contracts in Iraq and the additional £1 billion in capacity will enable UK companies to participate in further priority projects that can promote nation-building efforts in Iraq. UKEF is working with the Government of Iraq to identify projects that can use its support with initial priorities including power, water and sanitation, and other infrastructure-related sectors.</p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Department for International Trade works extensively throughout Latin America and the Caribbean (LatAC) to strengthen the UK’s trade and investment relationships. Last year Joanna Crellin was appointed as LatAC Trade Commissioner, and in March hosted a LatAC Roadshow in several UK regions to promote trade opportunities to UK companies. The Prime Minister has also appointed four Trade Envoys to promote bilateral trade and investment in LatAC.</p><p>The UK has concluded trade continuity agreements with Chile and 11 Caribbean countries, which will allow us to continue trading on preferential terms when we leave the EU, and we are in advanced stages of negotiation with the Andean Community and Central America Association. We also utilise other bilateral trade policy tools such as the Brazil Joint Economic and Trade Committee.</p> more like this
