Most of our support to Pacific Island Countries (PICs), including Kiribati, is provided through multilateral institutions and key climate change funds, which have a strong presence and deep expertise in the region.</p><p>The UK is acutely aware of the unique vulnerabilities that climate change poses to Kiribati and other PICs and we are actively using our influence in the UN and multilateral development banks to raise their concerns on issues such as natural disasters and climate change.</p><p>The UK is the largest contributor to the Green Climate Fund and the World Bank’s International Development Association, and the largest European donor to the Asian Development Fund, which have all provided a significant increase in support to the Pacific over recent years. The UK secured EU agreement to lead an independent review of the textbooks which is underway. The most recent World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Report suggests growing disparity between women and men for a second year running in political empowerment, access to health and education and participation in the labour force.</p><p>Gendered norms and discriminatory social norms underpin the lack of progress towards gender equality and empowerment of girls and women worldwide.</p><p>That is why, at the heart of DFID’s Strategic Vision for Gender Equality is a call to action to challenge and change the unequal power relations between men and women, and the negative attitudes and discriminatory practices that hold girls and women back.</p><p>Rigorous evaluations conducted under DFID’s flagship What Works to Prevent Violence Programme have shown that it is possible to shift social norms within the timeframe of a programme. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 17/03/2020 answer text <p>The UK has announced up to £241 million of aid funding to support the global efforts to combat the outbreak of COVID-19.</p><p>This includes £150 million to the International Monetary Fund to help developing countries focus their available resources to tackle the virus and a £65 million investment into COVID-19 research, which includes eight vaccine candidates and rapid diagnostics tests.</p><p>The £150 million to the International Monetary Fund’s Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust is to help developing countries deal with the short-term economic difficulties caused by coronavirus, allowing them to focus their spending on tackling the outbreak. This funding will help lessen the disease’s future global economic impact and thereby help safeguard the UK economy. A team of infectious disease experts will also travel to developing countries to support global efforts to prevent further spread.</p><p>UK aid has a longstanding record of supporting countries across the globe to prepare for large disease outbreaks. The UK’s global response strategy is to support the WHO and other multilateral actors to contain Covid-19 and mitigate secondary health and socio-economic impacts, especially for vulnerable populations in Low- and Middle-Income Countries.
