The specific inclusion of development as part of the review demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that the UK’s development, security and foreign policies are complementary.</p><p>The Review will be underpinned by the commitment the Government has already made to spend 0.7% of GNI to international development. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 04/03/2020 answer text <p>The UK government is committed to tackle global poverty through the Fairtrade principles of decent working conditions and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. These principles are included throughout our work and show that between 2015/16 and 2018/19 we have supported 3.9 million people to raise their incomes or obtain or maintain better jobs or livelihoods.</p><p>The UK government has also been a strong supporter of the Fairtrade Foundation. DFID provided £20 million to Fairtrade International between 2010 and 2016 to make the global Fairtrade system stronger, including activities to improve traceability and transparent reporting within Fairtrade tea, coffee and cocoa supply chains. DFID also supported Fairtrade through the £30.3 million Responsible Accountable and Transparent Enterprise programme, funding Fairtrade to help them develop Fairtrace, a supply chain mapping tool. This commitment is at the heart of DFID’s approach to tackling extreme poverty. DFID works to reduce inequality globally by ensuring that people have access to opportunities and services, prioritising the most vulnerable, those caught in crises, and those most at risk of violence and discrimination. Over 50% of UK aid goes to the most fragile and conflict-affected states.</p><p> </p><p>DFID is tackling inequality across the board through our policy and programming. For example, DFID’s work on decent jobs focuses on working in some of the most challenging environments to help the poorest and most marginalised to gain jobs, increase their incomes and work their way out of poverty. Between 2015/16 and 2018/19, the UK enabled 3.9 million people to raise their incomes or maintain/gain a better job or livelihood. For example, the PrOpCom Mai-Karfi programme has helped over 850,000 beneficiaries increase their income by a total of over £48 million in some of the poorest parts of northern Nigeria.</p><p> </p><p>DFID is a global leader on Gender Equality and Disability Inclusion and published ambitious new strategies on both last year with far reaching commitments. The UK played a major role in negotiating the 2030 Global Goals and will be at the forefront of delivering them, including Goal 10 on reducing inequalities.</p><p> </p><p>The evidence is clear that delivering on the UN’s 2030 Agenda will require higher and more inclusive growth that spreads benefits across society, notably for women and girls and other excluded groups. Through supporting the poorest in partner countries, DFID is helping to reduce inequalities within them, whilst also generating faster growth that can help to close inequality gaps between countries. All four of these strategic objectives support poverty reduction and all are aligned with the UK national interest.
