This guidance is designed to clarify existing practice for the verification of death outside of hospitals and to provide a framework for safe verification of death in this COVID-19 emergency period. It is for all cases outside hospital when verification of death may be completed by people who have been trained to do so in line with their employer’s policies, including medical practitioners, registered nurses or paramedics. We are ensuring the required capacity is available across the local network, and making sure tests are sent to Pillar 2 when appropriate to make best use of the available capacity across the system. This is the next phase of our response for care homes, using the latest domestic and international evidence brought together by Public Health England, and drawing on the insights of care providers.</p><p>The Government has made £3.2 billion available to help local authorities deal with the immediate impacts of COVID-19. The Government introduced a series of social distancing advice and measures during March based on scientific advice from SAGE, including the ‘stay at home’ advice on 23 March.</p><p>When we reduce our day-to-day contact with other people, we will reduce the spread of the infection.
