answer text <p>The Department-funded National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) funds research to develop medical technologies through its research programmes, primarily the invention for innovation programme. This programme provides funding to industry and researchers to develop innovative healthcare technologies, including medical devices, which address existing or emerging health and social care needs. The NIHR also supports the development of medical technologies through its research infrastructure, primarily the Medtech and In Vitro Diagnostic Co-operatives, which will be replaced with the NIHR HealthTech Research Centres (HRCs) from 1 April 2024. The 14 NIHR HRCs will work with industry and researchers to support the whole pathway from development of medical devices, diagnostics and digital technologies, through to adoption in the health and care system.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) invests in research, clinical expertise, specialist facilities, workforce and support services across a range of clinical areas. All NIHR research infrastructure actively supports collaboration with the life sciences industry and supports the commercialisation of new research and related technologies to help grow new companies (including SMEs). The NIHR has a dedicated IP Unit that aims to develop the capacity of NIHR to enter into commercial research partnerships with relevant life science or healthcare organisations as well as providing support in the area of commercial processes, IP management and advice in order to maximise return on investment.</p> more like this

answer text <p>On 23 March 2021, the Government published its vision for the future of United Kingdom clinical research delivery. This vision aims to create a research positive culture across the National Health Service and all health and care settings, where all staff feel empowered and supported to participate in clinical research delivery as part of their job, offering rewarding opportunities for all healthcare staff and exciting careers for those from all professional backgrounds who lead research. An implementation plan and strategy setting out how we will deliver the vision in 2021/22 will be published later this year.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), the Government’s research funding body for translational, clinical, applied and public health research, funds high quality research for the benefit of the National Health Service, public health, social care, patients and the public. The NIHR’s infrastructure covers all of England, such as the NIHR Clinical Research Network and the NIHR Applied Research Centres. It is a strategic priority for the NIHR that research must follow patient and public needs, and it works in partnership with the public, the health, public health and social care workforce, policy-makers and service commissioners and providers to identify the current and emerging challenges and where evidence is most needed.</p> more like this
