answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 07/05/2019 answer text <p>‘Contained and controlled: The UK’s 20-year vision for antimicrobial resistance’ recognises the important role of vaccines in tackling antimicrobial resistance (AMR).</p><p>The United Kingdom supports the delivery and uptake of vaccines internationally through UK Aid programmes, including the Global AMR Innovation Fund, the UK Vaccine Network, Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance and the Global Vaccine Action Plan. Through these programmes UK Aid supports initiatives to ensure that all low and middle-income countries have introduced one or more new or underused vaccines by 2020.</p><p>In addition, our expert advisory committees are considering how vaccines can be better employed to support the control of AMR in the UK.</p><p>More generally, vaccinations are a key part of the prevention strategy in the NHS Long Term Plan. To help increase immunisation uptake, NHS England will undertake a fundamental review of general practitioner vaccinations and immunisation standards, funding and procurement. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 02/04/2019 answer text <p>Building on the achievements in the UK Five Year in Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Strategy (2013-2018), the Government published ‘Contained and controlled: The UK’s 20-year vision for antimicrobial resistance’ and ‘Tackling Antimicrobial Resistance (2019-2024): The UK’s five-year national action plan’ on 24 January 2019. Arrangements for implementation of ‘Tackling antimicrobial resistance (2019-2024): The UK’s five-year national action plan’ are being finalised in discussion with key partners including Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the National Health Service, United Kingdom Research and Innovation and the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.</p><p> </p><p>The NHS Long Term Plan, published in January 2019, made the commitment to implement the UK’s five-year national action plan on AMR. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 05/03/2019 answer text <p>‘Tackling antimicrobial resistance (2019-24): The UK’s five-year national action plan’, recognises that immunisation is one of the most effective public health interventions to prevent infection in humans and animals.</p><p> </p><p>Vaccination programmes have been successful and cost-effective in helping avert millions of cases of childhood illness, with large reductions in cases of serious infections. By reducing the burden of infection, vaccine programmes play an important role in reducing levels of antibiotic prescribing and therefore the selective pressure for the emergence and spread of antibiotic resistance.</p><p> </p><p>The childhood pneumococcal vaccine programme has led to declines in some antibiotic resistant clones of pneumococcus that are covered by the PCV13 vaccine. Also, the influenza vaccination programme helps to reduce the use of and requirement for antibiotics by reducing cases of respiratory illness and of secondary bacterial pneumonia.</p><p> </p><p>In addition, the new Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) Healthcare Associated Infections Working Group, set up to review and provide preliminary advice to JCVI on the potential use of appropriate vaccines in the United Kingdom, will help to address this issue.</p> answering member constituency Winchester answering member printed Steve Brine question first answered 05/03/2019 17:19:23 answering member 4067 label Biography information for Steve Brine

answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/02/2019 answer text <p>The overarching goal of the Five Year Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Strategy (2013-18) was to slow the development and spread of AMR.</p><p>While the United Kingdom made good progress in reducing its use of antimicrobials in humans and animals over the life of the Strategy and resistance rates in the UK remain stable, the burden of resistance is increasing as infections continue to rise.</p><p>Around the world, antibiotic use is increasing and challenges remain in ensuring access to safe, effective medicines for those who need them. Good diagnostic stewardship promotes appropriate and timely testing.</p><p> </p><p>Evidence suggests that a third of prescriptions in primary care do not have an associated diagnosis recorded. The multi-media campaign, which features advertising on television, radio, outdoor, digital, social media, public relations and extensive partnership support, has run for a consecutive year in 2018.
