The UK has called for the human rights of all Sudanese people to be respected and for the resumption of the political process leading to an agreed peaceful transfer of power to a civilian-led government, as demanded by the Sudanese people. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 13/05/2019 answer text <p>​The UK continues to be deeply concerned at the worsening humanitarian situation in the North-West and South-West (Anglophone) regions of Cameroon and the reports of human rights violations and abuses committed by both security forces and separatists. Violence is driving people from their homes, and impacting on the lives of ordinary civilians, particularly women and children. The UK is providing lifesaving assistance to 10,000 people in the Anglophone regions following a £2.5m contribution to UNICEF in December.</p><p>The British Government regularly raises concerns about the political, human rights, and humanitarian situation with the Government of Cameroon. Further to a phone call in March with Cameroon Prime Minister, Joseph Ngute, on 30 April, I met with the Cameroon High Commissioner to London to reiterate UK concerns. We discussed the plight of the 530,000 people who have been internally displaced within the Anglophone regions, the 32,000 refugees in Nigeria who have fled from the crisis, and the arrest and detention of Opposition Leader, Maurice Kamto and other political actors. I urged the Government of Cameroon to urgently take steps to establish a credible dialogue to tackle the root causes of the crisis in the Anglophone regions, and ensure fair and timely trial, or release, of detainees. The UK continues to call for unhindered humanitarian access to affected populations, and investigations into all reports of human rights violations and abuses. On 8 January, alongside Troika (UK, USA, Norway) partners and Canada, we released a statement urging the Government of Sudan to respect the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, to ensure those responsible for the deaths of protestors are held to account, and for the immediate release of those held in detention without charge or trial. We continue to monitor the situation closely and raise our concerns at the highest levels. British Embassy Khartoum most recently did so with senior officials in the Government of Sudan on 13 February. We continue to monitor the situation closely, especially in Ghazni and Uruzgan districts. We understand that the Afghan National Defence and Security Forces are working to stabilise the security situation in both provinces.</p><p>The British Government continues to urge all parties to the conflict in Afghanistan to respect International Humanitarian Law, protect the civilian population and facilitate the provision of assistance by neutral and impartial humanitarian agencies. Due to the situation on the ground it is extremely difficult to confirm the whereabouts of any British nationals in Syria. We continue to stress to Turkey the importance of ensuring that the UN and non-governmental organisation partners are able to operate in areas under Turkish control. Human rights violations and abuses lead to unstable, less prosperous and undemocratic societies.</p><p>The tensions in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon are troubling. The Government wants to see an end to violence, release of prisoners and a meaningful process to address the core issues. We welcome the announcement by President Biya in his New Year speech, calling for moves to rebuild trust, resume dialogue and pursue decentralization.
