answer text
I am concerned by the developing political situation in Sri Lanka. I have called on all parties to ensure that the constitution is respected and due political and legal process upheld. The UK urges the President, in consultation with the Speaker, to reconvene parliament immediately to give the democratically elected representatives of the Sri Lankan people their voice. We shall also continue to urge Sri Lanka to implement fully the commitments it has willingly made to the UN Human Rights Council.
more like this

The UK was part of EU messages of condemnation and the British Ambassador to Nicaragua released a statement on 5 June calling for an end to the violence. He urged the authorities to protect human rights and thoroughly investigate all human rights abuses.

The Head of Latin America Department met the Nicaraguan Presidential Advisor on International Relations and Policy on 29 May and 5 June to deliver the same messages.

For stability to return, the inclusive national dialogue promised by the authorities should resume under peaceful conditions, with full respect for freedom of expression. They discussed the political and military situation in the north with the Vice President of Nigeria and the Military Theatre Commander in Maiduguri. They reaffirmed the Government's commitment to assisting Nigeria in its struggle against Boko Haram, but emphasised that there can be no military-only solution to the insurgency. They pressed the Nigerian Government to take a more comprehensive security, political and developmental approach to the North East in order to address the drivers of the conflict.
more like this
