The Government therefore welcomes the Financial Conduct Authority’s (FCA) consultation on the remit of the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). The FCA are operationally independent of the Government. The FCA announced it is investigating the matters arising from the review and focussing on whether there is any basis for it to take further action.</p><p> </p><p>The review is solely a matter for the FCA, which is operationally independent of Government. The last Labour Chancellor conceded that it could not be repeated without significant tax avoidance.</p><p> </p><p>Bank specific tax measures introduced by the Conservative government since the bank payroll tax include the bank levy, an additional 8% surcharge on banking profits, making misconduct compensation non-deductible and restricting the amount of carry-forward losses.
