answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/06/2014 answer text <p> </p><p>I have been asked to reply on behalf of the Department for Energy and Climate Change.</p><p>Government departments and agencies, including notably the Department of Energy and Climate Change and its predecessor departments, have for many years supported research aimed at identifying UK hydrocarbon potential and finding ways of finding and extracting it more cost-effectively. Comprehensive records of the amount spent on such activities by year across Government are not available.</p><p>The Department of Energy and Climate Change does not have detailed information on the annual expenditure of the Scottish Executive.</p><p>Estimates of total annual pre-tax expenditure in £ billions by the private sector on finding and developing UK hydrocarbons (oil and gas, in the North Sea as well as elsewhere in the UK and on the UK Continental Shelf) for the period 1994–2013 are given in the table below. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 12/06/2014 answer text <p>As the Prime Minister has said “<em>we'll start measuring our progress as a country not just by how our economy is growing, but by our quality of life</em>.”</p><p> </p><p>The National Wellbeing Index and Measures of Wellbeing provides a rich contribution to the debate about the health and happiness of the people of the United Kingdom.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>These are relatively new statistical series, meaning that the evidence base on wellbeing, and the implications for policy making, are still being developed. The ONS Wellbeing statistics released on the 4<sup>th</sup> June made a helpful contribution to this debate. They revealed for example, that those households that receive more of their income from benefits are more likely to have lower life satisfaction. This enables the Regulator to conduct a market study on ownership of the payment systems and, depending on the outcome, to refer the question of ownership to the Competition and Markets Authority. The progress of the Action Group on Cross Border Remittances is on track and the group is next due to meet on 27 June 2014. These two key pieces of guidance were endorsed by the Action Group in its most recent meeting and are subject to normal approval processes.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The UK Government is liaising closely with the Somali Government on activity underway to ensure the continued flow of remittances from the UK to Somalia. The Ambassador of Somalia to the UK (or his representative) has attended all of the Advisory Group Meetings for the UK-Somali Safer Corridor.
