answer text
The people working in the defence sector make an enormous contribution to the capability of our Armed Forces. The industry supports hundreds of thousands of direct and indirect jobs throughout the UK. Our refreshed Defence Industrial Policy, published in December 2017, sets out our commitment to encouraging a thriving and globally competitive UK defence sector as an integral part of the Government's overall Industrial Strategy. This includes encouraging the wider application of our investment in research, and Ploughshare Innovations Ltd was established specifically to support transfer of defence science and technology into the civilian market. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence recently invited Philip Dunne MP to carry out an external review of opportunities to grow the contribution that defence makes to UK prosperity. This was published in July and we are currently considering its recommendations.
more like this

answer text
As at 25 June 2018, the total number of alleged instances of breaches or violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in Yemen listed on the "Tracker" database maintained by the Ministry of Defence (MOD) is 356. Of these, 14 are duplicate entries, which means that some incidents will have been recorded on more than one occasion likely because of the incomplete nature of Non-Governmental Organisation and media reporting upon which the MOD relies to update the "Tracker". Dis-aggregating this information to the last 12 months would be misleading without the addition of sensitive contextual information, which I am withholding as its disclosure would, or would be likely to, prejudice relations between the United Kingdom and other States.

The MOD does not investigate allegations of IHL violations. The Saudi-led Coalition is best placed to do this, and does so through its Joint Incident Assessment Team.
more like this
