answer text <p>In January 2012, the then Secretary of State for Defence transferred HMS VICTORY 1744 and all that is connected with the ship, situated in the immediate vicinity of where she is lying, to the Maritime Heritage Foundation upon trust. This would include the brass cannon dispersed around the wreck site.</p> more like this

answer text <br /><p>In March 2012 the custodianship of HMS Victory transferred to the HMS Victory Preservation Company, a charitable trust established as part of the National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) to ensure the preservation of the ship for future generations.</p><p>Part of this arrangement was a £25 million grant from the Ministry of Defence matched by a similar grant from the Gosling Foundation. The Heritage Lottery Fund contributed an addition £5 million from its Catalyst Fund. These funds form an endowment for the maintenance of the vessel. The NMRN continues to receive Grant in Aid from the Royal Navy, but the maintenance and repair of the ship is the responsibility of the Museum and the Trust.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The letter of 27 February 2015 from my right Hon. Friend, the Defence Secretary, to Lord Lingfield concerns the withdrawal of the approval to recover at risk surface artefacts from the site of HMS Victory 1744, not the Maritime Heritage Foundation's management of the wreck site itself. The letter also made clear that the related issues raised in a Judicial Review application, that has now been withdrawn, are being considered by officials; it would therefore be inappropriate to comment until this process is concluded.</p> more like this

answer text <p>There has been no excavation at the wreck site of HMS VICTORY 1744 nor artefacts recovered by the Maritime Heritage Foundation or Odyssey Marine Exploration since the Deed of Gift was signed in January 2012. However regular site surveys have been conducted, and reports provided to the Government. There has, therefore, been no breach of the Deed of Gift.</p> more like this
