answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 22/10/2024 answer text <p><strong>Service Family Accommodation (SFA):</strong></p><p> </p><p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) manages c47,000 SFA properties in the UK.</p><p> </p><p>In financial year (FY) 2024-25, the Department has purchased 351 new homes at a cost of £157 million, in areas where there is a shortage of SFA.</p><p> </p><p>£441 million is currently forecast to be spent on maintaining and improving SFA including: £180 million to improve insulation in c600 homes; remediate c1,000 homes with long-term damp and mould issues, and refurbishing c200 long-term empty homes. C1,700 minor damp and mould packages are planned and c30 homes will receive upgraded heating.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Single Living Accommodation (SLA):</strong></p><p> </p><p>As part of a new programmatic approach for the construction of SLA which is intended to improve the delivery of new accommodation by finding efficiencies and improving value for money, the Department has appointed six companies to undertake this work.</p><p> </p><p>This will see 16,000 new bedspaces built as part of a wider-MOD plan to build or refurbish 40,000 SLA bedspaces over 10 years. The work will improve the lived experience for Service Personnel occupying the rooms.</p><p> </p><p>In FY 2024-25 £41 million is currently forecast to be spent on improving the condition of SLA including: refurbishment, heating, and room conversions to provide additional bedspaces. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 26/09/2024 answer text <p>The Department, through its contractors, continuously renovates, refurbishes, improves, and maintains its estate, including accommodation.</p><p>With regards to Service Family Accommodation (SFA):</p><p>In Financial Year (FY) 2023-24, the Department invested £578 million on maintaining and improving SFA, including £220 million which was spent on remediating damp and mould in c4,000 homes, refurbishing c1,000 long term empty homes, replacing doors and windows in c3,000 homes, providing c1,100 homes with External Wall Insulation, c1,000 homes with replacement kitchens and bathrooms, and upgrading heaters and boilers in c1,500 homes.</p><p>In FY2024-25, £619 million is to be spent on maintaining and improving SFA, including £180 million to improve insulation in c600 homes, remediate c1,000 long-term damp and mould homes and refurbishing 200 long-term empty homes. Circa 1,700 minor damp and mould packages are planned, and 30 homes will receive upgraded heating.</p><p>With regards to Single Living Accommodation (SLA):</p><p>In FY 2023-24, £37.8 million was spent on improvements to SLA, with another £3.2 million spent on SLA Safe &amp; Legal compliance works.</p><p> </p><p>During FY2024-25 expenditure of £41 million is planned to improve the condition of SLA including refurbishment, heating upgrades and room conversions to additional bedspaces. £7.5 million has also been ringfenced for internal improvements to SLA condition and heating. In addition, £14.3 million of Safe &amp; Legal compliance works are planned. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 09/10/2024 answer text <p>There are 3,406 Service Family Accommodation (SFA) properties in Aldershot, and it is assessed that 3,290 (96.6%) of these currently meet or exceed the Government wide Decent Homes standard. However, the Ministry of Defence recognises poor quality housing is an issue for Service Families and continues to champion investment to improve this.</p><p> </p><p>There are 4,657 Single Living Accommodation (SLA) bedspaces in Aldershot, of which 3,077 (66%) are assessed as Grade One (the highest grade) for condition. SLA within Aldershot is maintained in good condition under the Project Allenby Connaught Private Finance Initiative. SLA at Gibraltar Barracks is maintained in good condition under the Holdfast Training Services Public Private Partnership. Improving the standard of military housing is a priority for this Government. The MOD is now considering the recommendations of the Kerslake Commission report.</p><p> </p><p>In the King’s speech the Government announced the establishment of an Armed Forces Commissioner as a first step in improving service life.
