answer text <p>The UK's Armed Forces are drawn from all the regions and nations that make up the UK and they play an essential role in our Defence and security. All regular recruitment is carried out online and through a network of Armed Forces Careers Offices. Although recruits provide a postcode, this is not always an accurate reflection of their nationality or origin.</p><p>Each of the three Services benefit from historic military connections and recruiting links with specific regions and nations and recruit predominantly from those to ensure those links, culture and identities are strongly represented in the UK's Armed Forces.</p> more like this

The Ministry of Defence provides direct support to the region in the form of three CH47 chinook helicopters, who provide non-combat assistance in the French-led counter terror mission Operation BARKHANE, and we deliver training to G5 Sahel militaries through the EU Training Mission Mali. answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) is working with Whitehall Departments to implement the UK National Action Plan on Women, Peace &amp; Security. To support this, Joint Service Publication (JSP) 1325 'Human Security in Military Operations' issues direction on how the UK Military can recognise and protect civilians from human rights violations including sexual violence. JSP 1325 is available on Gov.uk at the following link:</p><p>www.gov.uk/government/publications/human-security-in-military-operations-jsp-1325</p><p>All UK Military deploying on operations receive training on preventing and responding to conflict related sexual violence. In addition to this, the MOD continues to expand the Human Security in Military Operations Adviser training programme. answer text <p>The Ministry of Defence (MOD) does extract DNA from the remains of some unidentified British soldiers found on former battlefields. Due to the cost of DNA extraction and processing, MOD only recover DNA from historic casualties where it has been possible to draw up a list of potential candidates from other evidence, such as artefacts found with the remains, and analysis of casualty and unit records. The list of potential candidates makes it feasible to carry out the subsequent genealogical research to identify possible next of kin. Only where that subsequent research reveals a potential donor with whom to compare the recovered sample, is DNA used as part of the identity confirmation process.</p> more like this

answer text <p>The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) makes has an active programme to reduce and replace animal experiments and in recent years we have developed a number of alternative methods for testing that do not require animals. We will continue to look for alternatives so that we minimise our use of animals.</p><p> </p><p>Animal experiments are regulated by the UK Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA). Under ASPA, “animal experiments” are referred to as “scientific procedures”.
