answer text <p>On 8 July 2016, the former Prime Minister announced that the previous exclusions on women serving in Ground Close Combat roles in the Royal Marines, Royal Armoured Corps (RAC), Infantry and Royal Air Force Regiment were being lifted. The implementation is in a phased approach over the next three years, beginning with the RAC which is open now with other roles opening from 2018.</p><p> </p><p>As at 9 November, 70 applications to join the Army have been received from females expressing a preference for service as a soldier in the RAC, and less than five female soldiers have applied to transfer to the RAC.</p><p> </p><p>Officers do not make an application to join a specific cap badge before enlistment, as selection for regiments takes place during the first and second terms at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS). Based on the one intake at RMAS since the exclusion was lifted, less than five potential female officers have expressed an interest in serving in the RAC.</p><p> </p><p>Please note that all figures have been rounded to the nearest five as a means of disclosure control to preserve anonymity.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

answer text <p>UK Armed Forces are providing training to Armed Forces or security forces in the current Financial Year in the countries listed below. The types of training provided cover a broad spectrum of subject matter including English language training, medical training, the conduct of disaster relief, and peacekeeping operations. The lists indicate the primary recipients of the training. In some cases training provided predominantly for members of the Armed Forces may also include participants from the security forces. answer text <p>At the Foreign Affairs Council (Defence) on 14 and 15 November 2016, Member States agreed Conclusions on the Security and Defence Implementation Plan (SDIP) that are consistent with the UK's guiding principles: nothing should undermine or duplicate NATO, which remains the cornerstone of European defence; and the European defence industry should remain open and globally competitive. The actions agreed in these Conclusions will increase the effectiveness of the EU's Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) as well as help improve NATO/EU cooperation, including taking forward implementation of the Joint EU/NATO Declaration agreed in the margins of the Warsaw Summit.</p><p>Our Defence relationships with both France and Germany are bilateral partnerships between sovereign nations, based on our common values, interests, and needs. These relationships go back a long way and will continue to endure after the UK leaves the EU. We remain committed to European security and, as set out in the 2015 Strategic Defence and Security Review, will continue to work with others, including bilaterally and through NATO, to tackle shared threats.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p>

answer text <p>The Defence budget was agreed with HM Treasury during the 2015 Spending Review which provided the basis for prudent planning over the spending review period.</p><p>The Department centrally manages the impact of variations in foreign exchange rates as part of the routine financial management of the Defence programme. The foreign currency arrangements in place will limit any impact from the current foreign exchange position for several years. Any foreign exchange considerations beyond then will be dealt with as part of the Department's annual planning cycle.</p> more like this
