To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer, what steps his Department is taking to ensure that, ahead of the introduction of a Plastics Tax in April 2022, consumers are actively engaged in the increased recycling of plastic packaging, allowing for business of all sizes to secure the necessary supplies to meet the 30 per cent post-consumer recycled content requirement.

The Government expects Plastic Packaging Tax to create greater demand for recycled material and in turn stimulate increased levels of recycling and collection of plastic waste. The supply of recycled material is also expected to increase in the future as a result of technical advancements, improvements to collection infrastructure through the Government’s proposals for consistency in recycling, and the planned reforms to the Packaging Producer Responsibility system.
