<p>Storm Eva took place on 24 December 2015. Following this between April 2015 and
March 2021 the Government is investing £2.7 billion to better protect the country
from flooding and coastal erosion. As of March 2019, £1.67 billion of this Government
funding has already been invested in flood and coastal erosion risk management (Flood
and Coastal Erosion Risk Management grant-in-aid) nationally.</p><p> </p><p>In the
City of York a total of £25.8 million was spent as of March 2019. This includes investment
in the Foss Barrier, a strategic floodgate designed to protect properties upstream
in the Foss River catchment. Future funding allocated in York from April 2019 onwards
is £74.4 million.</p>
