<p>Extensive work to prepare for a ‘no deal’ scenario has been under way for almost
two years and we are taking necessary steps to ensure trade flows continue to operate
smoothly from the day we leave the EU. We want to see cross-Channel trade continue
to move as freely as possible but it is right that as a responsible government we
also work on a range of contingency plans to deal with any disruption.</p><p> </p><p>Department
for Transport is working closely with the Border Delivery Group to ensure a joint
understanding of the possible impacts on ports and airports throughout the country
of the UK’s departure from the EU in a number of scenarios. This work is informing
local resilience planning and involving national Government bodies where needed.</p><p>
</p><p>The Government has well established ways of working with the food industry
to mitigate disruption, and we will be using these to support preparations for leaving
the EU. Consumers will continue to have access to a range of different products.</p>
