<p>We have made significant progress in reducing the deficit from its post-war peak of 9.9% of GDP in 2009-10 to 2.3% of GDP in 2016-17. The Office for Budget Responsibility forecasts it will fall further to 1.6% of GDP in 2019-20.</p>
