<p>For many years, the Government has controlled undergraduate entrant numbers to medicine and dentistry courses at university. The Grant letter of 29 January 2015 to the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) said that, at this stage, the Government is retaining intake targets for undergraduates on medicine and dentistry courses, reflecting the high cost of this training to the public purse.</p>
