answer text <p>The Government believes that Low Emission Zones (LEZs) are one of a number of measures that can provide an opportunity to promote growth and reduce air pollution in urban areas. Defra provides guidance to local authorities on the design of LEZs such as which vehicles should be covered and what emissions standards they should meet. The Government believes that decisions on whether or not to introduce LEZs, and the vehicles they cover, should be a matter for local authorities.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>The Mayor of London is proposing to create an ultra low emission zone (ULEZ) where almost all the vehicles running during working hours are either zero or low emission. A public consultation on the ULEZ is taking place between 27 October 2014 and 9 January 2015.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this
