As part of our oversight of local government expenditure, we consider the financial
stability and service delivery of individual authorities, liaising with other departments,
including the Department of Health and Social Care in relation to adult social care.
On this basis, we have no immediate concerns on the ability of local authorities to
fulfil their statutory duties. We recognise the pressures on local government which
is why we have provided an additional £2 billion to adult social care over the three
years to 2019-20.
