<p>Time spent in temporary accommodation means people are getting help and it ensures
no family is without a roof over their head. The law is clear that households with
dependent children should only be accommodated in B&B in an emergency and then
for no longer than 6 weeks</p><p>Our new Homelessness Advice and Support Team, drawn
from local authorities and the homelessness sector, is providing support to local
authorities to help them address their homelessness challenges, including the use
of B&B accommodation for families.</p><p>We are taking unprecedented action to
change how we tackle homelessness and rough sleeping. We have committed £1 billion
through to 2020 to support local services and changing how local authorities operate
by implementing the Homelessness Reduction Act from 3 April 2018 to help more people
get tailored support sooner when they are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.</p>
