<p>Paediatric autoimmune neuropsychiatric disease (PANDAS) is currently a research
and clinical area of interest for professionals working with children and young people.
There is evidence that exposure to an infection can act as a trigger for some children
to present acutely with a range of neurodevelopmental and mental health symptoms such
as tics, obsessive compulsive disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and
eating problems etc.</p><p> </p><p>However, there is inconclusive research evidence
to demonstrate that PANDAS is a discrete disease entity. It is therefore not listed
as a diagnosis by the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related
Health Problems or the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.</p>
