answer text <p><del class="ministerial">The UK-wide Pollinator Monitoring Research Partnership was established with funding from Defra and the Scottish and Welsh Governments.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">The total cost over the three-year project period from 2016 to 2019 was £282,720.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">In-kind contributions from UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (UK CEH) and other academic and voluntary organisations were also committed to the project, to a value of £201,804 (for example for staff time, data sharing, software). The monitoring work itself was co-ordinated by UK CEH.</del></p><p><del class="ministerial">A follow-up project is now underway, building on the outcomes from this first one. Further details are available on the GOV.UK website at:</del></p><p><del class="ministerial"><a href="http://sciencesearch.defra.gov.uk/" target="_blank">http://sciencesearch.defra.gov.uk/</a></del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">The Government is working with a number of local authorities to put in place the digital infrastructure to support Clean Air Zones. The vehicle compliance checker launched earlier this year, with the payment portal launching in the summer. This will enable users to check if they may be charged to drive in a zone.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial"> </ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">Local authorities will be responsible for the enforcement of Clean Air Zones and the collection of any penalty payments arising.</ins></p>

answer text <p><ins class="ministerial">Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities are primarily funded from local authorities under powers under the Marine and Coastal Access Act 2009. In recognition that IFCAs were carrying out new functions, Defra has been providing them with £3million per year in New Burdens funding since their creation. answer text <p>The attached Annex contains the number of dogs landed in Great Britain which did not meet the import requirements and therefore required quarantine in 2019.</p><p> </p><p>The definition of ‘illegally landed’ does not necessarily mean the animal was smuggled into Great Britain. Our definition of an illegal landing is any dog that is landed in Great Britain which does not meet the import requirements and therefore requires quarantine under the Rabies Importation Order. While these figures may include some smuggled animals, it also includes:</p><p> </p><ul><li>pet animals that arrive at UK airports and during the pets check are found to be non-compliant</li></ul><ul><li>animals that are found ‘inland’ and after a trading standards investigation are found to be non-compliant</li></ul><p> </p><p>The attached data will include animals imported under the Pet Travel Scheme and the commercial import (Balai) requirements.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p> more like this

answer text <p>The Government takes wildlife crime seriously. Significant sanctions are available to judges to hand down to those convicted of wildlife crimes. Most wildlife crimes carry <del class="ministerial">a maximum fine of £5,000</del> <ins class="ministerial">an unlimited fine</ins> and a six-month custodial sentence. answer text <p>Abandoned, lost and otherwise discarded fishing gear (ALDFG) is estimated to comprise 40 – 70% of man-made waste in the ocean measured by weight. Ascertaining the extent of the ALDFG that ends up in UK waters faces a number of challenges, including the movement of ALDFG with ocean currents. One of the best indicators is the Marine Conservation Society’s beach clean data, which indicate that fishing-related litter is amongst the ten most prevalent items recorded on UK beaches.</p><p><ins class="ministerial">Defra recognises addressing ALDFG as a key priority. We are an active member of the Global Ghost Gear Initiative (GGGI): a pioneering and cross-cutting initiative that engages with communities around the world to collaboratively address the problem. The UK Government has provided funding to the GGGI to conduct bespoke workshops with stakeholders to raise awareness and train fishers in sustainable best practice.</ins></p> more like this

answer text <p><del class="ministerial">It has not proved possible to respond to this question in the time available before Prorogation. Ministers will correspond directly with the Member.</del></p><p><ins class="ministerial">We continue to work with key stakeholders across the food chain to overcome the barriers to redistribution and explore solutions through The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP), supported by funding from Defra.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">All large retailers have relationships with redistribution organisations and we have seen a large increase in redistribution which has almost doubled since 2015 (96% increase), or an additional £81 million of food equivalent to an extra 65 million meals a year. This has been helped by a 63% increase in supply of food from major retailers in recent years.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">There is still more that can be done, the Government announced in October 2018 a £15m pilot fund for 2019/20 that aims to increase the redistribution of surplus food through a series of grant opportunities. The winners of which will be announced later in the year. We have already awarded £4.2 million of this fund to projects.</ins></p><p><ins class="ministerial">In line with its commitment in the Resources and Waste Strategy the Government has also appointed Ben Elliot as its Food Waste Reduction Champion. He has been meeting - and continues to work with - business leaders from restaurants and large food retailers to further develop solutions to prevent good food from being wasted.</ins></p>
