answer text
Cutting waiting lists is one of the Government’s top priorities. The National Health Service is prioritising urgent and cancer care and will continue to do its best to maintain appointments and elective services wherever possible, including joint replacement surgery and musculoskeletal services. 18-month waits for trauma and orthopaedic services have been reduced by more than 92% since September 2021.

Additionally, we are transforming the way the NHS provides elective care by increasing activity through dedicated and protected surgical hubs. This is focused on providing high volume low complexity surgery in six high volume specialties, which includes trauma and orthopaedics including joint replacement surgery, as well as other elective treatment areas such as ophthalmology, general surgery, gynaecology, Ear Nose and Throat, and urology.

94 of these such hubs are open currently, and through capital investment announced at 2021 Spending Review, the NHS plans to have 132 such centres open by March 2025.

answer text
The UK remains deeply concerned by the ongoing conflict in Libya and the worsening humanitarian situation. The fighting around Tripoli has claimed over 1,000 lives and led to over 120,000 displaced, with concerning reports of airstrikes in civilian areas and increasing attacks on civilian infrastructure. It is vital that all sides engage in a durable ceasefire, ensure humanitarian access, and return to UN-led political talks. The UK is calling on all parties to engage with the UN and humanitarian community, and respect International Humanitarian Law. Aid must be allowed to reach those in need and civilians, including refugees and migrants, must be evacuated to safety.

The UK funds a £3.29 million humanitarian programme to provide multi-sector humanitarian assistance to vulnerable people in Libya, improve access to primary health care, build capacity of health care workers, and bolster humanitarian coordination and capability. Earlier this year £1 million was given to the UN Flash Appeal. Funding to the World Health Organisation will deliver lifesaving medical care, including surgery in frontline referral hospitals, and primary healthcare supplies for 150,000 patients. Funding to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs will provide an expert to negotiate improved humanitarian access for agencies delivering aid on-the-ground.

We will do this through de-regulation, by promoting fair competition and by simplifying the business support landscape. We will work closely with the automotive sector, in particular through the Automotive Council, to understand its needs and what more the Government can do to help retain its competitive position within the global market.

more like this
