answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 16/10/2017 answer text <p>We have protected the base rate of funding at £4,000 per student for all types of providers until 2020 to ensure that happens. Extra funding is provided where needed, for example, for students on large academic programmes and for providers to attract, support and retain disadvantaged 16 to 19-year olds. In addition, my Rt hon. Friend, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, announced in the Spring Budget a significant investment in technical education for 16-19 year olds, rising to an additional £500 million a year.</p><p>The first £74 million of this investment will be allocated to help institutions build their capacity for the improved work placements that will form part of new T level programmes, from April 2018 to July 2019.</p><p> </p><p>Funding and resourcing beyond 2020 will be considered and agreed as part of the Government’s next spending review.</p><p> </p><p>The post-16 system is performing well and a record proportion of 16 to 18-year olds are now participating in education or apprenticeships. The results in the first of the reformed A levels were released in August this year, with students continuing to achieve effectively against the high standards of the qualification and demonstrating their readiness for the demands of higher education. We are removing barriers to the growth of accelerated courses, which particularly appeal to mature students.</p><p> </p><p>EU students make an important contribution to our universities and we want that to continue. To help provide certainty for EU students as we exit the EU, the Government has confirmed that EU students starting their courses in the academic year 18/19 or before will continue to be eligible for student loans and home fee status and will have a right to remain in the UK to complete their course. While it is disappointing to see the fall in EU numbers in the UCAS data, we welcome the rise in the number of 18 year olds from non-EU countries applying to study in the UK. As set out in published guidance[1], if there is a change in circumstances of a provider – such as a change of ownership –their eligibility is reviewed to ensure that these robust criteria are still being met. The Department’s priority is to protect learners and users of other services run by Learndirect.</p><p> </p><p>Once Learndirect made the decision to withdraw from the Adult Education Budget (AEB) procurement, they were informed that they would be treated in the same way as other providers who have not been awarded a contract as a result of the AEB procurement. answer	answer is ministerial correction date of answer 11/09/2017 answer text <p>The Department for Education works closely with HM Revenue and Customs and the Student Loans Company (SLC) on all aspects of the operation of the student loan repayment system, including the issue of over-repayments made at the end of a borrower’s loan term.</p><p> </p><p>There is already a scheme in place to help prevent borrowers over-repaying at the end of their loan terms. SLC tells borrowers up to two years before they are due to finish repaying their loans that they may complete their loan repayments by direct debit, rather than through the tax system.
